March 8th was International Women's Day. Here are a few inspirational quotes that move me...I hope they do that for you too....
"Stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone ought to be!" - Elizabeth Gilbert
"The question isn't who's going to let me; its who's going to stop me." - Ayn Rand
"Everyone has inside of her a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is." - Anne Frank
Anne Frank's quote is spot-on for my appeal to you all regarding the opportunities to serve on our board of directors....it's good news that we have committed members who have served on the board over numerous rotations, occasionally we need new members to keep the wheels on our "bus running".
Like myself, I had doubts that I could sufficiently fill all the roles for which I had volunteered; Care and Concern; Programs Chair; Newsletter Editor; and finally, as your President, this year. Each time the Board has been there to encourage, educate and bless me with their kindness and help.
Here's, one for you: the last time I served as president of anything was my election of my high school's first female student body president in 1958. Yes, I came to you a little rusty when I became your 2017-2018, president, but many of you members provided me with the slack and support to serve - along with Roberts Rules of Orders for Dummies, and thanks also to member Jody Prongay for her parliamentary wisdom!
So this is where I am going with this letter: new board members are needed to serve come May of this year. Look at these opportunities and let me or your incoming president, Barbara Kirk, know of any individuals who you think would like to join our sorority of sisters on the board! Here are the openings:
- Newsletter Editor
Job sharing are options, and mentoring is a freebie offered by retiring board members.
Thank you for reading this message. Barbara (206-780-7924 or email@example.com ), and I look forward to your recommendations and inquiries regarding these open BOD positions. Sisters - Lean In and Step Up!
"When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed" -Maya Angelou
- Cooking oil
- Spaghetti sauce
- Toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, tooth paste, anything else that might be useful)
YWCA Women's Shelter
- Paper Towels
- Toilet Paper
- Black garbage bags
- Hair brushes
Barb's Beret Project
Dear BBP Volunteers,
The first sewing circle in our new location - the Fiber Arts Studio at the BARN (Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network) was held last month. It is a fabulous facility for the Barb's Beret Project to meet and I encourage everyone to attend our next get-together which will be on Thursday, March 15 from 1-4 pm. Please join us for all or any part of the three hour session that is available to us.
This month we will be applying the finishing touches to sewn berets. I will bring a supply of thread and an assortment of embellishments but ask you to bring your own sewing needles and shears.
I'm very excited about our new sewing circle location and look forward to seeing you there.
Lenae Jenkins, BBP Coordinator
